Ron Ross: bass

Ron grew up in the rural countryside of northwest Ohio. His love of music began at an early age and he could often be found building drum sets out of tupperware and pots and pans with wooden spoons as drumsticks. At age 10, after being talked out of playing trumpet in the school band by his parents, he tried out for snare drum and made the drum section. He stayed with drums throughout his school years, placing top 3 in various state competitions on snare drum. One of the highlights of his high school years was traveling to a Niagra Falls and placing second in a national marching band competition with the Elida High School marching band.
Moving to Florida at age 20, Ron began listening to a local contemporary jazz radio station and his love of jazz began. He played drums in church for a number of years  before coming to the realization that everybody wanted to play drums but there were no bass players. Ron picked up a bass guitar and began to teach himself.
In 2009 at the urging of his wife, Ron answered a Craigslist ad for a bass player for a local smooth jazz band called Project SRQ. After several changes in personel, he still enjoys playing in what is now NuJazz.
